The Information Regulator publishes a guide on how to use PAIA and POPIA to get access to information. It is available in all official languages from the Regulator: inforegulator.org.za · email enquiries@inforegulator.org.za. A copy is also available from us on request.

4. Records available without a request

5. Records kept under other laws

We keep records as required by, among others: the Close Corporations Act 69 of 1984; the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962; the Value-Added Tax Act 89 of 1991; the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011; the Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997; the Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995; the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008; the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002; and POPIA.

6. Categories of records we hold

7. How we process personal information (POPIA)

Purposes: to provide and bill our services; to answer enquiries for our clients' businesses; to send follow-ups to people who asked for them; to meet our legal and tax obligations; to keep our systems secure.

Categories of people and information:

Recipients: service providers who host and run the service for us (Cloudflare, Meta WhatsApp Business Platform, Resend, PayFast, and where enabled Anthropic and Twilio), our clients (for their own customers' information), and authorities where the law requires. The full list, with what each receives and where, is on our trust page.

Transfers outside South Africa: some service providers process information in the European Union and the United States. Such transfers are protected as required by section 72 of POPIA (for example binding agreements and adequate data-protection laws).

Security: encrypted connections, access limited to people who need it, unguessable private links, signed and verified messages from WhatsApp, PayFast and others, automated retention and deletion, and a written breach procedure. Card details are handled only by PayFast and never stored by us.

8. How to request access to a record

  1. Complete the prescribed request form (Form 2, from the Information Regulator's website or from us).
  2. Send it to the Information Officer at hello@askzuri.co.za or the address above. Give enough detail to identify the record, say how you want access (a copy, inspection, by email), and if you request it on behalf of someone else, show your authority.
  3. You must state which right you want to exercise or protect, and why the record is needed for it.
  4. Fees: the request fee and access fees are those prescribed in the PAIA Regulations. You don't pay a request fee to ask for your own personal information. We tell you in writing if a fee or deposit is payable before we process the request.
  5. We decide within 30 days (extendable once by up to 30 days, with notice) and tell you in writing. If we refuse, we give reasons and explain your options.

9. Grounds for refusal

We may or must refuse access on the grounds in Chapter 4 of Part 3 of PAIA, for example to protect: another person's personal information; commercial information of a third party or of ours; confidential information owed to a third party; the safety of people or property; records privileged from production in legal proceedings; or research information.

10. Remedies

If you are not happy with our decision, you may complain to the Information Regulator within 180 days, or apply to court, as set out in PAIA.

11. Your POPIA rights

You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, and withdraw consent to marketing (every marketing message has a one-click unsubscribe). See our privacy policy.
